Beverley Men’s Trek For Children With Cancer Charity

A Beverley man who has battled a rare and life-threatening illness is pushing himself to the limit to raise money for a vital charity.

Adam Barley, 22, was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) just nine weeks after he was born and has had to fight the disease ever since.

He has been in and out of hospital all those 22 years, having to endure numerous blood transfusions and a spleenectomy, among many other obstacles he had had to endure.

On Monday (July 25) he and his friend James Scaife will set off on a 120-mile, six-day trek from Beverley Market Cross to the North Yorkshire Moors to raise money for the Children With Cancer charity.

They have already raised over £350 for the charity, and hope to get that figure close to £800.

Adam said: “I have been in and out of hospital all my life but I have never given up hope, and without the help of such charities and dedicated people I would not be with you today.

“So we plead with you to give whatever you can to Children With Cancer.”

CML occurs in all age groups, but most commonly in the middle-aged and elderly.

Its annual incidence is 1–2 per 100,000 people, and slightly more men than women are affected. CML represents about 15–20% of all cases of adult leukaemia in Western populations.
