Beverley Town Football Club held their second annual golf day, and raised a staggering £1200 for club funds!
In brilliant sunshine 22 teams battled it out at the prestigious Hornsea Golf Club, enjoying great hospitality from the staff at the club.
The conditions were ideal for good scoring, and it was a brilliant score of 94 points that finally took the spoils. The winning team of “Douggies deadly duo and a foo more”, captained by Ted Grantham, were worthy winners, and gladly accepted their prizes at the evening presentation.
It was great to see so many local businesses and members of the community supporting the event. Town chairman, Raul Lampier was particularly impressed “It has been a truly wonderful day. Our thanks go to main sponsors Beerhouse Self Drive Hire, along with Nigel Bloomfield, David Jagger, Murray Todd, Veolia and Stretton Wright for donating prizes. Thanks go to all 22 teams who played on the day. We had some fantastic feedback, and a number of teams have already enquired about booking for next year! Thanks must also go out to Rich Jagger, who organised and ran the day so successfully.”
The money raised will give the club much needed financial stability for the forthcoming season. Meanwhile on the pitch Town started their pre season campaign with a convincing win over York league side Dunnington.
With a youthful looking side, Town got off to the best possible start, going 0-1 up after 45 seconds after a mix up in the home teams defence.
This set the theme for the rest of the game, and Town continued to dominate from start to finish. Players stepping up from the under 20`s fitted in extremely well, and Town ran out eventual winners 1-5.
Town have the challenge of Hutton Cranswick, followed by Barton Town and Driffield EI in the next 2 weeks, by which time they should be ready and raring to go for the 2011/2012 season.
