Beverley Town Cricket Club’s 2nd Xl’s up and down season continued when they were forced to settle for a losing draw away at bottom of the table Osbaldwick on Saturday.
Skipper Tim Smith won the toss and asked the home side to bat first on a decent looking track. Beverley hoped to put pressure on Osbaldwick, who had been skittled for just 50 the previous week.
The home side got off to a decent start, keeping wickets in hand for a push in the second part of their innings and never really looked into much trouble. Jamie Roe once again lead the bowling attack with 4 for 68 and he was supported by Pete Parnaby who finished with three wickets.
The home side racked up a competitive 239 for 7 from their allocated overs.
Beverley lost an early wicket as Ben Fish was out first ball. Tim Smith (36) and Iain Gillyon (31) put together a decent partnership until they were both out in quick succession.
Will Wilson (30) and Paul Best (19) just started to get on top of the home bowling attack, until Best was unluckily run out backing up at the non-strikers end off the bowlers fingers tips.
Wilson soon followed and the target soon began to look out of reach. Adam Nicholson (30) batted well and it was left to Pete Hynes (21 no) to hang on for a draw as the Beverley innings finished on 190 for 8.
