While many brides have followed the old fashioned saying, something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue for centuries, a new website has been launched which aims to turn one bride’s something old into another’s something new.
Sellmywedding.co.uk is the only online marketplace in the UK dedicated to the buying and selling of used or pre-loved wedding items; where you can sell everything to do with the big day from the dress to dressing the reception.
How the website works is that sellers simply pay a one off fee of £20 to list an unlimited number of wedding items. There are no individual listing fees, no sales commission and items won’t expire until they have been sold.
Rebecca Aspin, Founder of Sell My Wedding, explained: “As a newlywed myself I was looking for a way to share all the beautiful items and fabulous finds from my wedding with another bride.
“Sell My Wedding puts newlyweds who are looking to recoup some of the cost of their big day in touch with brides-to-be who are not only looking for inspiration but a way to make their wedding affordable.
“Unlike other websites that specialise in selling second hand wedding dresses Sell My Wedding lists everything to do with weddings; from veils to vases. It also features items for the whole wedding party from grooms to pageboys, ushers, bridesmaids to the mother-of-the bride.”
“Although the average cost of a wedding has fallen, it still tops £19,000 which is a staggering amount of money. In an age where people are more cost conscious and ethically aware brides and grooms are looking for ways to keep the cost of their wedding down.”
The benefit for brides-to-be is that if they know what they are searching for they can search via an extensive category list or by theme; from traditional or vintage to seasonal.
Brought together under one website the aim is that brides will be able to find everything they need for their wedding without having to leaf through endless wedding magazines and internet sites and of course as everything is second hand or pre-loved, the beauty is that it will be at a fraction of the original cost.
The bespoke website was designed by East Yorkshire-based Kat Productions. Rebecca continued: “I am delighted with the website. It looks like a beautiful wedding boutique, a treasure trove of wedding delights. Just because the items are second hand doesn’t mean that they don’t deserve a fabulous looking shop window in which to be showcased.
“As we have only just gone live, there are still lots of empty categories however brides-to-be should keep checking back as we already have three fabulous wedding dresses listed for under £300!”
To celebrate the launch of the website, the £20 sign up fee is being waived for the first 100 private sellers to sign up to sell their wedding items.
Businesses that specialise in second hand, pre-loved, handmade, sample stock or vintage are invited to list their items on the website for an annual fee of £120. Charities can upload items for free.
