Once again Sarah McDowell was the belle with the bat and ball scoring a brilliant 52 not out, taking 3 wickets for 1 run and whipping the bails off to run out one of the players.
Vernon Carus, a Lancashire side, turned up at Norwood Recreation Ground ready to repeat their performance in May when they soundly beat Beverley by 9 wickets.
Not so this time, Vernon won the toss and elected to bat on a hard pitch. Hannah Mathews was the first to strike, bowling Abi Bates for a duck in the third over.
A stand of 42 by Vikki Stanley and Gemma Kennedy made life a little difficult for the Beverley side until Hannah struck again bowling Gemma for 23, and Nichola Knapton trapping Vikki Stanley LBW for 19. Maria Holmes tried hard with Christina Cookson to keep the runs going then Sarah took her first of 3 wickets bowling Maria 23.
Amy Halloran started her second spell and was on the board taking 2 wickets in one over, not to be outdone Sarah did the same the following over, Vernon were now reeling at 94 for 9, Amy taking the last wicket to prevent Vernon making a ton.
After the lunch break, Sarah and Laura Wilson opened, with runs coming at a slow pace due to the accurate bowling of Maria Holmes and
Elle Stott. Laura was unlucky to be dismissed LBW for 2 with the score on 11 in the 6th over. Helen Craig took over and was sent back to the dressing room with only 2 runs added. Katie Rudd and Sarah made a stand of 40 until Katie was Caught and Bowled Gemma Kennedy for 18.
Hannah Mathews came into bat and showed the skill she had promised in earlier seasons, propping up one end while Sarah pushed the score on to 88 when Hannah was out LBW to a very good delivery for 12.
Hannah McCoid (not out 3) came into bat and she and Sarah (52 not out) took the score onto 100, beating Vernon by 6 wickets.
