Community Hospital Art & Photogrpahy Competition

The NHS East Riding of Yorkshire Community Arts Challenge is looking for local artists interested in seeing their artwork on display in the new Community Hospital for the East Riding being built in Beverley.

Challenge organiser, Katrina Hunt, said: “The Challenge has been devised by the Local Community Liaison Group set up to support the ongoing development of the new Community Hospital. The Challenge is themed around bringing the natural world into the hospital, and we particularly welcome entries that focus on peoples’ favourite place in the East Riding.”

People can enter examples of photography, painting, collage, needlecraft or sculpture under six categories:

•    Towns and buildings
•    Coast
•    Countryside
•    Wildlife
•    Plants and flowers
•    The weather
The Community Arts Challenge is open to all people living or working in the East Riding of Yorkshire. There are 6 age groups: under 5s, 6 to 8 year olds, 9 to 11 year olds, 12 to 15 year olds, 16 to 18 years, and 19 years and over.
The Challenge is free to enter and up to five entries per individual can be submitted. Paintings should be unframed and no larger than A3 (420 x 297mm).  Photographs can be submitted on CD ROM or as unframed prints.  Photographs should be a minimum of 300dpi.

Katrina added: “Whether you’re new to art or have been producing work for years, we’d love you to share your art with patients, staff and visitors through this exciting Challenge.”

The entries will be judged by a panel which includes a local artist with a prize for each category winner.  A selection of entries will be displayed in the new Community Hospital which will welcome patients from Spring 2012. The closing date for receipt of all entries is 3rd January 2012.
