Food Judged As Beverley Food Festival Nears

Tonight judges were at the Tickton Grange Hotel sampling all the entries into this year’s Beverley Food Festival competition.

Starting at one end of a table the judges who included the Mayor of Beverley Cllr Peter Astelle, town clerk and event organiser Helen Watson and the BBC’s Jonathan Parker had the task of deciding winners.

David Nowell, the head chef at the Tickton Grange Hotel said;

“This year we have once again seen more new entries into the competition.”

“Trends seem to vary from year to year, for example a couple of years ago there were far more sausages.”

“The judges do not know it but there is also a cheese on the table that has received a gold award in a worldwide cheese competition!”

The  ever popular ‘Beverley Local Food Awards’ are judged and awarded at the event in the following categories,  best jam, pickle, sausage, dairy, drink, pie, cakes, meat and fish dish.

The Beverley Food Festival – Local Food Awards celebrate the diversity and skills that are prevalent in the local food industry.  The winners will be awarded at the Food Festival, displaying their prize winning produce.

The Beverley Food Festival which takes place on Sunday 2nd October and will be opened by officially by the BBC Look North and Radio Humberside presenter Peter Levy.

The food market will feature over 80 different stalls and a marquee with live ‘Ready Steady Cook’ style demonstrations and starts at 9.30 in the morning running throughout the day.
