Beverley Fall Short In Wholehearted Performance

The blue and golds, Beverley ARLC again took the field with a side containing several teenagers and were overawed by a more experienced beefier side. They made a reasonable fist of things in the first half trailing only 12-6 at the interval but the floodgates opened in the second half.

The writing looked on the wall for the hosts as the visitors swept to 12-0 lead inside the first ten minutes with some slick handling.

The home side did however stem the tide and managed to set up some attacking plays. This allowed Ryan Watkin- a product the Beverley Braves youth system who also enjoyed a spell at the Hull FC Academy- the opportunity to charge over beside the posts for a try that was converted by Steve Connolly.

They continued to compete well for the rest of the half with half back Steve Connelly causing the opposition problems with his deft handling and neat footwork. Adam Norton was also a constant threat with his nonstop running.

The second half was a huge dissapointment for the hosts as the visitors manage to convert every scoring opportunity and frequently fed off handling errors by Beverley. They registered 30 second half points to put the game beyond doubt. There was a mini revival from the hosts in the closing stages.

A spell of pressure inside the Orchard Park 20 metre zone saw them held up over the line twice.Something had to give and finally Lee Stevens charged over for a very rare try thet was again converted by Connolly.

Loose forward Adam Norton took another man of the match award with yet another wholeheated performance seemingly covering every blade of grass.

This Saturday the blue and golds have been handed a tricky away tie in the first round of the BARLA Yorkshire Cup.

They will make the short trip just over the border into South Yorkshire to face Thorne Moorends Marauders. The bus will leave outside Hodgsons at 12pm prompt and supporters are welcome to come along.
