Town Progress In Cup After Penalty Shoot Out

Beverley Town have made it through to the second round of the League Cup though needed penalties to do so.

Town were drawn away to Bransholme Athletic  but the match was moved to the Norwood Recreation Ground to meet the Humber Premier League requirements.

Jimmy Symes opened the scoring for Beverley Town but Athletic got on level terms midway through the second half.

As Beverley pushed forward Syme went through on goal, beating the keeper he was unable to create an angel to get his shot off.

Moments later Syme was put through again and was involved with a collision with the Athletic keeper that saw the striker taken off to hospital in an ambulance.

Athletic had a numerical advantage and took the lead for the first time in the match. With just two minutes remaining Mike Evins popped up to score for town.

Branshome Athletic had a chance to steal the game when they were awarded a penalty with jut two minutes left to play though missed.

With the scores tied the fixture was decided on spot kicks and it was Beverley Town’s keeper who scored the kick to secure a place in next round of the cup.

Beverley Town return to Humber Premier League action next weekend as they host fourth placed Crown FC at the Norwood Recreation Ground.
