Off Shoots Musical Theatre Company have secured the first amateur production of The Sound of Music for 2011.
“This is a fantastic coup for our group of youngsters,” said Martin Cox, Chairman.
“We had to get our bid in at the beginning of the year and because this production will be predominantly a youth production Josef Weinberger (the licensees) needed to be sure that we were capable of putting on this production – we had to sent them details about our previous productions. They were very impressed with what we have achieved with this group and granted us the license.”
Off Shoots, started by Jane Walker – who has over 35 years experience in professional musical theatre – is aimed at young people aged from 7 to 19, although the doors are open to anyone over the age of 19. “Everyone is welcome and we only hold auditions for our productions, not to join the group. Everyone involved gives up their time voluntarily to give the young people experience in musical theatre,” stated Jane.
The new term starts on Sunday 11 September at St Nicholas Community Centre, Holmechurch Lane, Beverley from 4.00 until 6.00 pm. Open auditions for The Sound of Music will be held on Sunday 25 September from 2.00 until 6.00 pm.
Off Shoots will then be rehearsing for a series of concerts entitled “Off Broadway” which will tour the area in November and December to raise money for the production of Sound of Music.
Brian Hossacks (who directed our production of The Railway Children) will be directing The Sound of Music which will have performances in Hull and Beverley at the end of March and beginning of April 2011.
Anyone who would like to join us please contact Jane on 01482 868337 or email offshootstheatre@gmail.com and also go to our website www.offshootstheatre.co.uk where you will see all sorts of information about the group and what we have done previously.
Come along and be involved in this great production and have fun with musical theatre.

Slightly confused by the story… it says The Sound of Music will be performed in March and April 2011!!!! Should that be 2012?
In any event, it won’t be the first amateur production of the musical in Beverley…. Longcroft School will be staging it before the end of the year!
they have cancelled it mate – coz Longcroft got rights on the performance and its no longer an exclusive, I have got to take it off when I have a second
