Messy Eaters Get Stuck In!

The children at Toll Gavel United Church Pre-School Playgroup were making a real mess this week! But it’s o.k. . . .as they are doing their bit to help promote healthy eating in their community and to help celebrate the forthcoming Harvest Festival at Toll Gavel United Church

It’s all part of the government’s and NHS initiative to its promote awareness of Healthy Eating in our schools and early learning settings and during this particular activity children learnt not only about taste, texture and colours but  also how fruit and vegetables help keep them fit and healthy.

The Playgroup children prepared a whole assortment of very large fruit and vegetable by forming papier-mâché shapes around balloons, which of course resulted in some very sticky fingers by the end of the session! These gigantic shapes will be used again later this month to help decorate the Toll Gavel United Church at the Harvest Festival service on Sunday 25th September.

Sheila Mason, Playgroup Manager, says;

“Whilst the children and the staff really had a lot of – and often very messy – fun making these shapes we believe that sowing the seeds in this way, if you will forgive the pun, during the children’s early learning stages can be an effective way of getting the whole family involved with the importance of this healthy eating message”.
