Goals Galore At Broadgates For United’s Girls

Staurday saw Mill Lane United welcome Pinefleet to Broadgates for their first home fixture of the season, and on a lovely late summers day, the home side produced some sparkling football.

Mill Lane United welcomed back Fenella Scutt back into the defence after her absence last week, renewing her partnership with captain Olivia Nassau and protecting Jessica Wright in goal. Millie Sharp, Grace Fletcher & Natalie Bell once more lined up in midfield allowing Amy Dodds freedom in attack.

Pinefleet won the toss and kicked off but within 60 seconds found themselves having to take another centre kick as a superb four man move started by Jessica Wright in goal, saw Millie Sharp clinically score from 8 yards out.

To their credit Pinefleet took it on the chin and defended valiantly and with a keeper in great form Mill Lane found it difficult to find a second goal. However following great skill from Grace Fletcher, Amy Dodds Bundled the ball over the line to give the home side a 2.0 lead at half time.

The second half saw Skie Wyatt joining the fray for Mill Lane in midfield, and with the game still in the balance the third goal was always going to prove decisive. With 5 minutes of the half gone, Olivia Nassau won the ball just inside her half and played a clever one two with Amy Dodds before rifling the ball home from outside the area.

However, once more Pinefleet didn’t give up, and from a long range free kick which missed every player in the box, the ball nestled in the back of the Mill Lane net.

The goal seemed to make the Mill Lane players raise it another notch and in a breathless last 15 minutes they scored four more goals, second of the game for Olivia Nassau, Amy Dodds & Millie Sanders and a first of the season for Natalie Bell.

At the final whistle Mill Lane United walked of deserved winners 7.1, however, full credit to Pinefleet who played the game in a superb spirit and never gave up.

Player of the match for the home side was Fenella Scutt who was superb in defence and just edged out Olivia Nassau & Amy Dodds to the accolade.
