Opportunity To Try Orienteering

Newcomers to the sport of Orienteering have an opportunity to try out their skills on Saturday October 15th on Beverley Westwood.

The event, organised by the Humberside and Lincolnshire Orienteering Club (HALO), will have a range of courses to suit all abilities, ranging from the novice to the more experienced navigator.  The fee is £2 for adults, £1 for juniors and £5 for family groups, participants can take part on as many courses as they wish.

Coaching will be available from British Orienteering qualified coaches.  Participants will be welcome to attempt more than one course and should turn up between 1pm and 3pm.  The registration area will be on Westwood Road to the south of Newbegin Pits.

Beverley Westwood is always a popular area for orienteering and there was a good turn out for a similar event held earlier in the year

This is the first of a series of events this autumn organised by HALO to allow novices to have a go at the sport of Orienteering.  There will also be events at Hull University and the Humber Bridge Country Park during November and December.

Further information can be obtained by visiting the HALO web-site (www.halo-orienteering.org.uk) or by emailing neil@halo-orienteering.org.uk

Orienteering is a challenging outdoor adventure sport that exercises both the mind and the body. The aim is to navigate in sequence between control points marked on a unique orienteering map and decide the best route to complete the course in the quickest time. It does not matter how young, old or fit you are, as you can run, walk or jog the course and progress at your own pace.

HALO also runs two weekly orienteering club nights, one at Beverley Longcroft School on Mondays and one at Oasis Academy, Wintringham, Grimsby on Wednesdays.  Both take place during term-times from 6:30 to 8:00pm.

Families and individuals are welcome at all these events, further information from neil@halo-orienteering.org.uk
