Beverley Athletic Club Chairman, Rob Reid, travelled back to his home city of Liverpool last weekend to take part in the first Liverpool Marathon.
Entering the marathon in his home town had seemed like a rather nostalgic and romantic thing to do and he was not disappointed. He ran past many pubs from his youthful days, saw his sister’s school and ran along part of his old school bus route.
He ran a fine first half in 1:42 but a hip problem flared up unexpectedly and he was forced to complete the second half at a much slower pace – jogging, walking and limping. Despite this he finished in a very respectable 4:02:45, spurred on by the crowds of spectators.
Conditions were difficult for runners with blustery winds along the exposed seafront and freezing rain at the finish.
NB Phil Taylor of Bridlington Road Runners finished in a commendable seventh place after a difficult stretch through miles 20-24.
