Over fifty people were attracted to Beverley Westwood on Saturday to try out orienteering.
The Humberside and Lincolnshire Orienteering club (HALO) had organised seven courses of differing lengths and levels of difficulty. The courses covered all parts of The Westwood and all featured electronic timing.
The good turn out was helped by a warm sunny day in addition to articles in HU17.net and posters and banners around The Westwood.
Coaching was provided for the newcomers and many of the competitors (some in family groups) had a go at the more difficult courses after successfully completing their first courses. There were some impressively fast times from some of the first timers.
The full results for all seven courses can be found on the HALO web-site (www.halo-orienteering.org.uk).
The next events in the series of events suitable for newcomers are at Oasis Academy, Wintringham, Grimsby (November 5th), Hull University (Sports centre, Inglemire Lane) (November 19th) and the Humber Bridge Country Park (December 17th). Full details of these and other orienteering events can be found at www.halo-orienteering.org.uk.
HALO also run weekly club nights during term-time in Beverley (Mondays at Longcroft School) and Grimsby (Wednesdays at Oasis Academy, Wintringham).
