The local orienteering club HALO (Humberside and Lincolnshire Orienteers) held it’s annual championships on Saturday October 15th on Beverley Westwood amidst glorious sunshine.
The event is a handicap and allowances are made for age and gender.
Skidby’s Helena Crutchley, after a string of top three performances in recent years, finally secured top spot to become the 2011 HALO Champion.
Beverley Junior, Zac Field who was the fastest runner on the day had to settle for second after the handicaps had been taken into account.
Zac has recently been selected to join the British Orienteering’s 2012 Talent Development Squad (identified as having the potential to master the skills necessary to become a top 10 performer at World Championships).
Note the 2015 Orienteering World championships will be held in Scotland.
The trophy presentation was made at the clubs Annual General Meeting which was held at Longcroft School immediately following the
Championships. The AGM featured the end of chairman John Butler’s three year term of office. Unfortunately Beverley man John was unable to attend the meeting and missed the congratulations from the club members present.
During John’s three year reign the club has changed dramatically: weekly club nights have been introduced in both Beverley and Grimsby and the club now holds at least two events a month, one on the South Bank and one on the North Bank. The club’s Coaching Officer, Grimsby’s Brian Slater, was voted in as chairman of the club for the next three years.
In addition to the 2011 HALO Champion, trophies were also presented to Ken Hutson (Orienteer of the Year), Pat O’Grady (Harry Milton Trophy, presented in memory of the recently deceased club member) and Zac Field (HALO League champion).
Hope they’re not your pictures
Well done Mrs Crutchley
