MP Encourages charities To Nominate Themselves For Social Justice Awards

Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness, is encouraging local anti-poverty charities to nominate themselves for the 2012 Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) Awards.

The awards are open to local, independent charities that seek to address issues such as educational failure, family breakdown, addiction, unemployment, and debt.

Now in its seventh year, the CSJ Awards have recognised over 80 winning voluntary groups and awarded a total of £300,000 in prizes.

Graham said, “I want to encourage all of the independent charities in East Yorkshire to put themselves forward for one of these awards. The winning charities will receive a £10,000 cash prize and that will go a long way in helping many of these often small groups to continue to provide a lifeline to their community.”

In addition to encouraging charities to nominate themselves, Graham has recommended the Southern Holderness Resource Centre (Shores), in Withernsea, for an award. Shores delivers a variety of services to residents of Southern Holderness, including providing academic supports, strengthening and supporting families during difficult times, and moving people from unemployment into work.

The final deadline for nominations is 4th January. More information is available online at www.centreforsocialjustice.org.uk
