The blue and golds entertained the high flyers from Keyingham on Saturday at the Beverley Leisure Centre and it proved to be tough going.
The visitors have assembled a formidable side this season which contains many teenagers that were products of their highly successful under 18’s team from the previous season. For much of the game Beverley ARLC were clearly struggling to cope with the slick well organised Vikings attack.
However there were some notable efforts from Lee Stevens who never stopped taking the ball up against an iron clad defence. Gavin Proctor worked himself to a standstill until he had to leave the field through injury. Ryan Watkin looked the most dangerous of the backs and had a hand in sending Lee Atkinson over for Beverley’s only score just before the break to peg the scores back to 4-28.
The second half continued in similar vein to the first with the visitors registering a further 24 unanswered points. The final whistle could not come quicker for Beverley and the spectators on a bitterly cold afternoon. Lee Stevens took the man of the match award.
The Hull & District Winter League now shuts down until January 7th 2012. The blue and golds have just 7 league fixtures remaining in a league reduced to only 9 teams due to sides leaving to join tier 4 of the RFL’s pyramid structure which will operate a March to November season.
