The blue and golds went down to defeat again at the Leisure Centre last Saturday. Once again there was no shortage of effort, endeavour and spirit but they were sadly lacking a playmaker which would have converted pressure into points. Time and again they camped out in the oppositions 20 metres zone with repeat sets but lacked the ideas and invention to get over the line.
On a cold blustery afternoon, the visitors took the lead in the 5th minute with a converted try. The hosts reply came after a sustained spell of pressure inside the Fenners 20. A good passing movement saw Lee Falcus join the line to send Ian Lane over who did well to ground the ball with a crowd of defenders around him. Ryan Watkin added the difficult touchline conversion. The visitors added a further try to lead 12-6 at the break.
The second half started brightly for the home side but just when they looked to be troubling the opposition a long ball was intercepted by a Fenners player for him to race 70 metres to score beneath the posts. It proved to be a killer blow which they never really recovered from as the visitors added a further converted score to lead 24-6.
However, Beverley ARLC continued to graft away with the forwards Joe Wileman, Dan Clark, Gavin Platt and Lee Stevens all leading by example. The blue and golds deservedly got on the score sheet late courtesy of man of the match Lee Stevens going over after one of his typical charges. The conversion was missed and the visitors added a further try just before the whistle to complete the afternoons scoring.
This Saturday Beverley are again at the Beverley Leisure Centre.
They take on Hull Isberg kicking off 2pm at the Leisure Centre. The game is one of only 4 league fixtures remaining this season. The other 3 being against Cottingham Tigers, Holderness Vikings and GW Horners all away from home. The season will doubtless be extended with the usual myriad of end of season cups but the rebuilding process for next season has perhaps already begun.
