Building Society Backs Beverley Film

One of the UK’s oldest building societies is backing local film. The Beverley Building Society has added its support to the Beverley Film Society by making the volunteer led group its chosen community initiative of the month.

This is welcome news for the film society which has had a busy year fundraising for new projection equipment. The film group provides regular screenings of films from across the world, shown in the town’s Masonic Hall and.

Chair of the Beverley Film Society, Kenneth Flowers, said:

“Since it began over five years ago the film society has grown into more than just a film club, it is now a place where single and groups of people from the local area and further afield feel they can come to and be amongst friends.

“To have the support of local businesses and members of the community is both welcome and essential to our success. We are incredibly grateful for the donation from the Beverley Building Society, which will help us in our fundraising aims, and would like to thank all involved.”

Peter Myers, chief executive of Beverley Building Society, said:

“Our focus is on helping local people and businesses. We have successfully grown the building society to offer services nationally but having been based in the town for 145 years our roots are firmly grounded in Beverley. Supporting the local community is at the heart of everything we do which is why we are delighted to help and promote the Beverley Film Society to our members.”
