North Bar Traders Take First Steps To Boosting Footfall

Traders from the shops and restaurants located in the North Bar area of Beverley today met for the first time at the Beverley Arms Hotel.

The newly formed committee will be known as  ‘The GQ’ (short for Georgian Quarter) has been formed to help regenerate foot traffic and visitors to this part of the Town. Other places including Liverpool, who too have a Georgian Quarter.

It is proposed this will part of North Bar will named this given  its wonderful buildings mostly built in the Georgian Architecture.

It is hoped through support of other local groups and the local authorities more can be done in that area of town to attract more visitors given traders a much needed boost.

Barry Gibson who has the gift shop Streams of Beverley and is involved in a number of local groups that include the Beverley Chamber of Trade and the Beverley Christmas Lights Appeal opened up the meeting that was so well attended the Hotel suggested a bigger room for the next gathering!

The new group will be chaired by David Bird with Barry Gibson acting as vice chairman.

On Wednesday evening the Beverley Chamber of Trade held a meeting at the same venue where Julian Minshall, who played a key role in the Christmas Lights Switch On and late night shopping took up the role as Deputy Chair.

Julian told HU17.net;

“It is an exciting time for all business’s in Beverley, the Chamber is starting to gain momentum and that can only be good for all of Beverley.”

Julian added;

“ You learn something new all the time, at this meeting it was pointed out we have a candle stick maker in the town.”

For some time the Beverley Chamber of Trade has been quite focused on the retailers, with Julian’s appointment it is hoped they can attract more local companies from outside the town centre to become involved in promoting the town.
