Opera Box will be performing The History of Opera (Abridged) at Pocklington Arts Centre on Wednesday, 15 February and the Toll Gavel United Church, Beverley, on Thursday, 16 February. Both concerts start at 7.30pm.
In his own inimitable style, Brendan Wheatley and his guests will take you on a whistle stop tour of 400 years of opera.
- What is a castrato?
- Which composer died of a conducting accident?
- Why are basses taller than tenors?
- Why was Bizet’s opera Carmen a flop?
This informative and fun evening is perfect for newcomers to opera and regulars alike. Brendan will be joined by his wife, soprano Bridgett Gill, and a guest artist. As always there will be lots of live music accompanied by piano to demonstrate the ever changing styles in this exciting art form. Brendan and Bridgett have devoted a lifetime to opera, both as singers and in running their own successful touring companies, Opera Box and Swansea City Opera. They look forward to sharing their joy in opera with you.
Tickets cost adults £12, concessions £10. Pocklington tickets are available from Pocklington Arts Centre on (01759) 301547 and Beverley tickets from Beverley Tourist Information Office on (01482) 391672.
