Baillie Strike Earns Whitestar The Points

Beverley climbed up the U13 Myton league with a hard working victory over Driffield on very cold and wet day.

Match conditions for both teams created a challenge. Beverley took the lead early in the game when the Driffield defender was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box and a penalty was awarded. Joe Wilson stepped up confidently and despatched the ball high into the net.

A few minutes later the penalty count was equalled as Driffield were awarded a penalty for a foul in the area. The ball was blasted home for 1-1.

Beverley created opportunities down the right hand side with Tom Bruce and Ollie Baldwin combining well. Baldwin’s skill allowed him to get the better of the Driffield defence and he was able to send in some fine crosses. Half time 1-1.

The second half started a bit scrappy with both squads suffering as a result of the weather. Beverley got on top of the game and played some good football, James Busby and Liam Lawson controlled the midfield and created many chances for Dan Baillie and Charlie Rowbotham up front.

For Beverley Dan Baillie hit a lovely shot from the edge of the box which struck the back of the net putting his team 2-1 ahead. Driffield counter attacked but found they were locked out by a solid Beverley defence spearheaded by Will Harrison and James Weldon.

The back four were able to generate good positive play forward from Tom Bruce and Nick Moody. Late in the game Beverley had a great chance for another goal but the Driffield keeper saved well.
