KC’s recently launched fibre broadband service has made Beverley the UK’s broadband capital, with the fastest speeds in the country.
Leading broadband speed test site Netindex.com shows the East Yorkshire market town at the top of the UK speed league table with an average download speed of 40.66Mbps – more than five times the UK average of 7.6Mbps and more than 10Mbp faster than second-placed Jarrow, at 30.54Mbps.
The results are based on broadband customers’ own test results on popular speed test site speedtest.net.
Beverley’s remarkable average speed is down to the ongoing roll-out of KC Lightstream, KC’s fibre optic broadband service which gives customers guaranteed download speeds of 100Mbps.
More than 500 households in Beverley have already switched to the service since installations started in the Grovehill Road area a month ago.
Nick Thompson, KC’s director of consumer services, said:
“The response to KC Lightstream so far has been fantastic.”
“These days we rely on broadband for entertainment, information and communication, and our KC Lightstream customers are finding that download speeds of 100Mbps are transforming their broadband experience.”
“Over time we want our roll-out of lightning fast fibre optic broadband to give all of our customers the best-connected homes and businesses in the UK. Seeing Beverley at the top of the Net Index speed table means we’re off to a great start.”
All very nice KC, for the people of Beverley, but how about improving the service for your customers here in Hull that have been paying for your virtual monopoly for years? We’re paying over the odds compared to the rest of the country and are only getting an average (if that) service. I just tested my broadband and got a download of 7.8Mb and upload of 0.7Mb- basically AVERAGE! (Also I live pretty close to the exchange so that is probably pretty good compared to most!)
I understand where you are coming from Suzanne. I think that this is just a bit of self-promotion/marketing ploy by the folk at KC.
It isn’t even widely available in Beverley yet, having only been rolled out for initial trial in Woodmansey and now in the Grovehill road area of Beverley.
It will be coming to Hull for sure but I guess they can only roll it out in one area at a time. Why they chose Beverley, only they can answer.
I would also question why paying customers require a landline for this new broadband – they don’t need one do they??
Saying that I’m not too bothered – I share all costs with my neighbour and he signs me on to his wi fi.
More should do the same.
