East Riding College is launching a short course on safeguarding and child protection which also helps people making the step up to higher education.
The first six-week “Bite Size” course will take place at the College’s campus in Gallows Lane, Beverley, beginning on Wednesday, March 28, from 6pm to 9pm, with another course taking place at the campus in St Mary’s Walk, Bridlington, from May 2, from 1pm to 4pm. The course is available at half price (£49) for a limited period.
The course is aimed at practitioners working in early years and care settings such as nurseries and care homes but also any other roles which bring them into contact with children and vulnerable adults, such as people working in leisure centres and schools.
It will explore the concepts of child protection and safeguarding and will look at how they have changed in the last decade and the importance for practitioners to understand the wider context of approaches to securing the safety of children and vulnerable adults.
The work is assessed by a case study and review and those who successfully complete the course will be awarded 10 credits from the university which will count towards a future higher level qualification.
Alison Gray, assistant director at the College, said: “This course provides an interesting insight into the reasons why safeguarding and child protection have such high profiles today.
“It is also useful preparation for people looking to progress to a degree as it enables people to learn about the higher level style of academic writing.
“This is an excellent course and we have had very good feedback from people who have been on it.”
