Mill Lane United are looking for new female players to join their successful girls teams.
The club who play in East Riding Girls Football League are seeking players to join in the following age groups;
U14 – School Year 8/9
U16 – School Year 10/11
Malcolm Holiday, from the club said;
“We are looking for girls who the ambition to succeed and play for one of the region’s top clubs.”
Back in 1921 the UK Government banned women from playing football on any FA controlled pitch claiming the sport was ‘unsuitable for females’.
In 1993 there were just 80 girls teams in the UK but by 2004 that figure had increased to over 8,000 with football taking over from Netball as the most popular sport for women.
A recent study showed that playing football twice a week can also cause a significant fall in blood pressure, resting pulse rate, and percentage of body fat after only three months.
What’s more, the positive effects of a ‘kick around the park’ are greater than many other forms of more intense physical exercise such as weight training.
Anyone interested in playing for the side who are based at Broadgates in Beverley should contact Tony Storr on 07576 466213 or call Malcolm Holiday on 07966 717508 for more details.
