Beverley Arts Trust is delighted to announce the dates of the 5th Beverley Puppet Festival, thanks to lottery funding through Arts Council England – to be held on July 13th-15th 2012.
They are appealing to anyone with an interest in Theatre or Puppetry – or in simply supporting high quality Arts Events in the town – to come forward as Volunteer Stewards.
From small beginnings in 2005, this now biennial Beverley Puppet Festival organised by Beverley Arts Trustfeatures 23 professional companies, (over 40 artists), 22 ticketed events including Puppet Making Workshops and 45 free Outdoor Performances at the Festival Hub – The Friary Gardens off Eastgate, with 14 more taking place in the Town Centre.
Full plans for delivery of the festival remain conditional on further local funding bids – and more volunteers! Volunteer commitment of just a few hours over the Festival weekend will give you free access to most of the festival shows
As ever Beverley Arts Trust strives to provide a balanced weekend programme for all age ranges, with Shows for Adults/Teens, Families and Early Years, spread across three Theatre Venues – Armstrongs Social Club, Beverley Friary and the Masonic Hall – all within a few minutes of the train station. The continued aim is to showcase high quality and mainly British Puppetry with one notable exception this year coming from SOFIE KROG THEATRE OF DENMARK/SPAIN – “HOUSE” is an exquisitely performed and hilarious comedy horror show for adults / teens – hand picked by the Festival Director at an international festival in France.
Once again, several classic story titles have been included in the Festival with many diverse and accessible forms of Puppetry including the inspiration of different Materials, the Elements and Objects. At the Festival Bar in the Friary Gardens between shows, there will also be Face Painting, ambient Hurdy-Gurdy and even a Puppet Caravan!…. Also this year an exciting, extended programme of not just three but five evening shows Adults / age 12+
With your help Beverly Arts Trust hope that this biennial Festival can flourish and develop each time!
