So this National League 3 (North) season comes to a nail biting conclusion at Beaver Park on Saturday when Beverley RUFC entertain Burnage in their final effort to escape relegation.
They ensured that the final outcome would come right to the wire with a magnificent performance against play-off contenders Rossendale at Rossendale last weekend where the triumphed, against the odds, with a 25-24 victory, collecting a necessary bonus point as well.
They did so at a cost losing tight head prop Alex Ogilvie who was air lifted from the pitch to Blackburn Hospital with a serious looking neck injury following a collapsed scrum.
Fortunately the first fears of the stunned crowd were abated when, following x-rays and a scan it was concluded that no serious long term damage was evident but, obviously Alex will not be fit to play again this season.
Saturday’s game will be a tense affair. In order to have a chance of survival the Beavers must win and score at least 4 tries in the process, to pick up another 5 points.
Penrith visit bottom club Altrincham Kersal and must, assuming that Beverley have achieved their 5 points, do the same and win, with a bonus point. If they do that they will pip Beverley and the Beavers will then hope that Waterloo, who take on Rossendale at Waterloo, lose by more than 7 points and do not score 4 tries.
Pretty complicated isn’t it?
The best thing to do is come to Beaver Park and get behind the Beavers to help them home to their 5 points and let what happens at Altrincham and Waterloo take care of itself.
Beverley will train and make their final selection from the following on Friday night.
