Sweet Sixteen For The Wanderers!

Beverley Town Wanderers recorded two more victories to take their tally to 16 straight wins in an excellent display of pass and move, determined football.

Game One saw the hosts given a real scare after Brandesburton took an early lead against the run of play. The Wanderers then clicked into gear forcing a succession of corners after superb work in the midfield by Danny Prescott and Jacob Hodgson, but the half finished at 0-1.

From the whistle, the second half saw wave upon wave of slick passing, with Henry Green combining well with Thomas Smith to produce some exemplary moves. Bailey Young then played Harry Armstrong through on goal who cooly slotted the ball home, to level things up. With the impressive Mark Hudson mopping up any Brandesburton advances, this allowed the midfield to push forward to find a winner, and after brave work from Prescott at the far post, Armstrong struck a ferocious drive to find the net, and claim a 2-1 victory.

Game Two, the Wanderers started this game as they left the previous, with some highly impressive passing, and move of the game came after fine work from Green found Ethan Jacobsen down the left. His prescision pass was met by Bailey Young who let fly from all of 20 yards and his strike smashed onto the cross bar and into the goalkeepers hands.

It was Smith’s turn next to hit the woodwork after being released by Jacobsen, his turn and shot hit the post. Just before the interval, Billy Spruyt went close after his neat turn in the box, but his effort just went wide and the half finished goalless.

The second half, the Wanderers were dominating the play and peppering the Brandesburton goal.Midway through the half, Hudson won the ball in the middle of the park and found Hodgson, whose neat turn and strike nestled the ball in the bottom corner of the net to take the lead. Another impressive long distance strike from Young just went over the bar before a sublime delicate pass from Prescott found Green who despatched his chance confidently into the bottom corner, claiming a 2-0 vicotry, and rounding off another quality performance from the ever-impressive Wanderers.

Man of the Match went to Danny Prescott.

Manager Ed Prescott believes hard work on the training pitch, coupled with a squad of nine players all working and supporting each other on the pitch is the key to the Wanderer’s success.
