Braves Make It Three Back To Back Wins

Beverley Braves under 10’s made it three consecutive wins with a great team performance against a Victoria side that deserved more from the game than the two their two tries.

Both William Wallis and William Kirkup scored a hat trick of tries and converted one each of them each to give them personal tallies of 14 points each. It was however a team effort played in heavy showers and credit must go to the forwards who worked hard, none more so than Oliver Loney and Will Sanford who were two of the top three tacklers alongside Wallis.

Matthew Hutchinson and Tom Sparkes drove the ball up aggressively and Harry Newton worked hard at hooker highlighted by several scoots, something replicated by Dylan English when he moved to hooker later in the game. Ryan Deane worked well with Lewis Egan and several times Egan put Deane through gaps which would result in tries for their team mates.

Very little got past Thomas Cohen and Joseph Dennis made several exciting breaks through the middle whilst Oliver Gresswell put in some good tackles in his first game of the season.

The score was 22nil at half time with Marcus Walker scoring after picking up a dropped Victoria pass, Wallis getting two of his first hat trick of the season and Kirkup outpacing the defence to score down the left touchline. All three kicked a conversion each.

In the second half it was more of the same, Wallis pouncing on a loose ball after a fumble of a Kirkup kick, Goerge Lees capping a fine display with a typical strong run through the middle to touch down.

Walker dummied before racing in to the right hand corner a move which under lined his man of the match performance. Two more from Kirkup made it fifty for the Braves after conversions from English, Hutchinson, Cohen and Loney.

The Braves did not have it all their own way and Victoria playing their first game this season put together some fine moves and in better weather would have scored more points. As it was they scored two tries and had the last word with the final try of the game.
