United Beat Ferriby To Stay Top

This top of the table clash saw Mill Lane United reap revenge on Ferriby who won the first East Riding Girls Football League encounter earlier in the season.

Mill Lane United were in no mood for complacency and matching the threat of a storm in the heavens above they relentlessly poured pressure on the North Ferriby defence with superb interplay between Isobel Gilyon, Connie Forward and Hope Barratt up front.

Rebecca Long made her formidable presence felt in mid field with strong tackling and chasing the ball down to provide the strikers with constant long balls, one of which Barratt struck from a wide angle to beat the Ferriby goalkeeper to make it 1-0 at the break.

With Chloe Davisson on at the second half for Rebecca Long and Alex Clarke replacing the tireless defending of Ellie McMillan Mill Lane continued to battle for a further goal, but Ferriby had other ideas and in the first quarter started to threaten to dominate the match.

Long returned to the fold and linked well with Clark in mid field to provide continuous ball to Gillyon and Barratt whose excellent ball skills paid off again with a further strike from Barratt that put Mill Lane in the lead 2- 0 with only ten minutes to go to the final whistle.

North Ferriby United battled hard to get back in the game but not even their top scorer of the season was going to get past defender Millie Gray and with stupendous saves from Chloe Hakeney in goal Mill Lane secured the match for a vital win with what looks to be a very tight run in towards the end of the season between these two excellent teams.

Final Score: North Ferriby United 0 Mill Lane United 2
