Beverley Town Wanderers produced their finest display to date with 2 more victories over a spirited Westella & Willerby side.
Game 1 saw the opposition control the early exchanges in the first half but it was the Wanderers who took the lead after a fine delivery from a Thomas Smith corner causing mayhem in the area, Mark Hudson capitalised to stab the ball home with a precise finish.
Westella almost equalised but Billy Spruyt in the Wanderers goal kept them at bay and the half ended at 1-0.
The second half saw the Wanderers produce some sublime “total football” with some excellent passing and movement.Hard working Jacob Hodgson got himself on the score sheet, again from a quality set piece corner by Smith cooly finishing at the near post, which was straight off the training pitch.
The move of the season came after a long punt upfield from Spruyt, the magnificent Danny Prescott brought the ball down under control and released Henry Green down the right, his first time deep cross was met with a glancing header at the far post by Smith, sending the ball inches wide, well appreciated by both sets of coaches and spectators. Classy Prescott then fired in a long range drive after great work from Bailey Young to take the game 3-0.
Game 2 The Wanderers started this as they left the last – with great attitude and athleticism. Outstanding trio of Prescott, Green and Hudson were controlling the game, winning everything, and thwarting any advances from the opposition. Spruyt now playing outfield then put the
Wanderers ahead after a long quality ball from Harry Armstrong. He latched onto the ball well and found the corner of the net. Young then found himself one-on-one with the Westella keeper and after a fine save, Ethan Jacobsen who was having his finest game in a Wanderers shirt, calmly turned in the box and stroked the ball home from an almost impossible angle to take a 2-0 well deserved half time lead.
The second half saw the confident Wanderers produce some mesmerizing moves and after another impressive ball from Armstrong, Green went on a run and his long distance strike smashed onto the post.
Dynamic Jacobsen then brought the ball out of defence and his marauding run was almost rewarded but his effort sailed just wide of the near post. Westella and Willerby then earnt a consolation goal with virtually the last kick of the game after a strike cannoned back off the cross bar and was driven in to end the game 2-1 to the Wanderers.
Beverley Town Wanderers coaches were so proud of the team, with the entire squad producing a faultless display. Man of the Match went to the highly influential Bailey Young with Danny Prescott also deserving huge plaudits.

i can only assume, after personally watching the game, that the report was typed with rose tinted fingers.to suggest the only players to be “magical or classy”,were on the beverley team is not only wrong, but a bit of an insult to the westella and willerby side.they more than matched their opponents in the first game, and with having only 7 players and no subs, not only did their club proud but themselves aswell.deserved congrats to beverley though,it was a good performance.
