This week, Beverley-based Wild Cherry Training & Education hosted a transnational training course for 22 participants across Europe on behalf of the British Council’s Youth in Action Programme.
Those present spent 5 working days thoroughly investigating the hot topic of combating youth violence supported by a team of experienced European trainers. Onni Sarvela from Finland, Esther Kolle from Germany, Tsvetina Zarharlieva from Bulgaria and Sue Dudill from the UK, together scaffolded an innovative and dynamic programme which formed the basis of what turned out to be a truly magnificent and worthwhile week.
The majority of the event took place at the highly recommended Chancellors Hotel in the Fallowfield area of Manchester with a study visit taking place at the inspiring 42nd Street project in the city centre where young people on the margins of society with mental health issues are supported and advised.
Sue, who is Director of Training for Wild Cherry and was host for the event explained,
“We have established that 18 new projects are being developed involving over 150 partnerships as a result of the training course and this is an outstanding result. The training team are so overwhelmed and delighted with this that they are developing a mentoring, monitoring and guidance support system to those who require it to ensure that the best conditions possible are available to allow the projects to develop and be implemented.”
“The entire group went away fully armed with a range of new tools and methodologies with which to tackle this very hot topic”, added Tsvetina, ‘and we are delighted with the outcomes of the week.’
This project has been possible in the main, thanks to the generosity of the British Council and the European Commission’s Youth in Action Programme.
