Beverley Town Wanderers earnt the title “The Invincibles”, bringing their season to a close with two more emphatic victories, this time at Hessle Rangers Colts, taking their remarkable end of season tally to an outstanding played 20, won 20, drew 0, lost 0, scoring an incredible 61 goals along the way, and conceding just 7.
Game One – from the outset, the Wanderers instantly gelled with crisp passing and exemplary movement, and after a superb cross by Danny Prescott, Mark Hudson found the net from close range. Henry Green was then released by Hudson and his shot smashed onto the crossbar, before Ethan Jacobsen ghosted in at the far post to slot the ball home to take the half 2-0.
The second half saw the Wanderers using the flanks well and after great unselfish play by Prescott, top goal scorer, Thomas Smith produced an expert finish. Bailey Young then scored goal of the game when he unleashed a ferocious drive from 15 yards giving the Hessle keeper no chance. Outstanding Harry Armstrong then won the ball in the middle of the park and he released the lively Young, who again let fly, but his effort cannoned back off the post, and the game ended a well-deserved 4-0 victory to the Wanderers.
Game Two – the Wanderers turned on the style in their final game of the season with an awesome display and clinical finishing. Hudson scored his second after a through ball from Billy Spruyt, then Prescott and Jacobsen combined well and played in Spruyt who finished comfortably.
Hudson then completed a memorable hat trick after Jacobsens effort hit the post, following up to smash the ball home, ricocheting the ball off both posts in the process.
Prescott then got on the score sheet with a thunderous strike, which smashed off the crossbar and bouced down, crossing the line to take a 4-0 half time lead.
The second half saw the classy Wanderers apply relentless pressure on the Hessle goal, as wave upon wave of quality attacking flair, orchestrated by Young, Green and Smith resulted in some compelling moves. ARMSTRONG was well found by Smith, and he cooly finished low into the corner.
Young then struck a sweet free kick, bending the ball into the bottom corner, to claim his brace. Smith then completed his brace, after calmly finishing a one-on-one with the keeper, and PRESCOTT likewise, after a supreme well-worked set-piece corner from Smith.
Henry Green scored the final goal of the game with a spectacular long-range strike, to complete a memorable victory, which unbelievably, found every Wanderers player on the scoresheet!
Man of the Match went to Mark Hudson, for a sublime performance and hat trick.
