Longcroft Students ACE Day At Hull University

Year 9 students from Longcroft School and Performing Arts College visited Hull University on Wednesday 16th May for an interactive event to look at higher education.

ACE Day, which stands for Aiming for College Education, gave students the opportunity to learn what life at university is like, the commitments it requires and how your future career plans can depend on the qualifications you take.

Students Ambassadors were on hand to support and guide Longcroft students through the challenges, puzzles and worksheets that all helped to both bring university life alive and help give a clear picture of what higher education involves.

Bethany Thomson (14), who attended ACE Day, said: “I now know a lot more about university life than I did. The day was interesting, fun and now have a better idea of what I need to do if I want to go on to University.”

The event also proved beneficial for Paige Neilson (13), who felt that it had been a worthwhile experience: “I’d never been to a university before and didn’t realise they did so many things other than teaching. It was interesting to see all round the university and I enjoyed working with the student ambassadors.”

ACE Day is an initiative Hull University ran for the whole week, with many students from Hull and East Riding schools taking part. For students at Longcroft it was real eye-opener and helped them understand the steps they need to take at GCSE and A-level if they want to go onto higher education, either at Hull or elsewhere.
