The Beverley Braves U8s produced the performance of their season so far, to hold a strong Wyke team to a draw.
The team had worked hard in training on their defensive game, and this helped Beverley take a 3-1 lead. In attack, William Parkinson, Oliver Egan, Roberto Seminara, and Jared Goforth took the full force of a strong Wyke defence whilst setting up try scoring positions for Samuel Shrimpton, Jacob Parkinson and James Marr to score from.
The second half saw Beverley continue to tackle powerful runners as a team, but eventually Wyke found inevitable gaps and with five minutes to play had taken a 8-6 lead. The Braves regrouped to prevent any further scoring and then produced their finest period of offensive play with some fine passing, with George Youngs once again drawing the tackles before offload to a teammate to score in the corner.
In the dying seconds, Wyke worked the ball well and were left with a run into the corner, but were denied by a crunching try saving tackle from Jacob Parkinson.
The top tackler trophies were awarded to Timothy Heng and Beau English and the man of the match trophies to William Parkinson and also to Jacob Parkinson who was singled out by the coach for his all-round performance.

Beverley Braves U9s bounced back with a well-earned victory against an equally matched Myton with debutant Mark Peacham scoring the winning try and earning the man of the match award in a spectacular start to his rugby league journey.
He wasn’t on his own however and in try machines Owen Miller(3) and Will Cohen(2) plus a brace from the hard-working Tom Nuttall the Braves were always a threat with the ball. A wonder try from Alexei Rawlings thrilled the touchline, seemingly beating every defender at least twice on his mazy way to the line, and he completed the Beverley try scorers on the night.
It is defence that wins matches of course and in Ellis Gaden, Lewis Bradley and Charlie Gay the Braves had three, amongst others, that really gave it to the opposition, working tirelessly for their teammates.
Matty Shirley gave another good performance whist Alex Nuttall got top tackler and set up a try with some fine ball handling skills reminiscent of a young Lee Crooks.
Coach Craig Collins was heard to say afterwards ‘When I played, I was brilliant’
