Ricardo Guides New Look Town To A Draw

Beverley Town FC opened up their pre season campaign with a well-deserved draw at Pickering Town of the North East Counties Premier League.

Fielding no less than 7 new signings in the 17 man squad, new manager David Ricardo would get the chance to cast his eye over potential first-team starters for the forthcoming season.

It was one if the new signings that set up Town’s first goal after 30 minutes. Beverley worked a flowing move down the right flank, that earned a throw in near the corner flag. The resulting throw in was flicked on and fell kindly to Rob Northern, who neatly set up Mat Dixon, who finished calmly in the top corner.

Beverley had to then soak up a little pressure as Pickering hit back, with chances coming mainly from set pieces, but half time came and their 1-0 lead was intact.

The second half started very much the same as the first, with Beverley slightly the better side. Michael O’Connell, back at the club for a second spell, was working extremely hard in the middle of midfield, and Town created further chances to extend their lead. However, on 65 minutes a defensive mix up gifted Pickering a goal, and they were somewhat fortunate to be back in the game at 1-1.

Town continued to press and create further chances; Jamie Waltham worked hard up front, and youngster Aiden Anderson really shone in his first game at this level. Town finished the game strongly, and could have pinched a winner but for the referees final whistle halting a flowing move.

Manager Dave Ricardo took many positives from the game, and everyone who played contributed well to a good game. Town face another stiff test on Thursday (19th) night away at Hall Road Rangers.
