Braves Outclassed By Tigers

The Beverley Braves under tens put in a huge amount of effort but weakened by holidays and injuries, they were simply outclassed by the bigger and faster Cottingham Tigers which inflicted the heaviest defeat on the Braves this season.

14 nil at half time, the Tigers scored a further four tries in the second half to win 36 nil. Although the effort was there from all involved too many times it was left to a handful of players to do the hard work in defence with several players taking knocks but showing huge commitment to carry on. Recognising this the joint men of the match were Ryan Deane, Lewis Egan, Dylan English, Henry Hughes and Marcus Walker all of whom led the way in defence and attack.

Alongside them wings William Kirkup and Luke Dobbie looked dangerous, despite a lack of quality possession and Harry Newton made good yards scooting from acting half back. In defence Will Sanford, George Lees and Joseph Dennis put in some good tackles whilst Matthew Hutchinson showed signs of the aggression we would like to see more of both in defence and with the ball.

Beverley’s best period in the game was sparked by a long kick down field from Walker, which set up possession just a few metres from the Cottingham line. With Hughes driving the ball up and Deane involved in the build up Egan went on the short side only to be pulled down inches short.

The effort was also evident from Tom Cohen, Tom Newton and Oliver Gresswell, to complete the full team line up. The Braves will be looking to improve on their next appearance before holidays mean they will not play for three weeks.
