Beverley’s Ladies Beat Anston By 74 Runs

Beverley left Norwood on route to Anston with only 10 players and then lost another on route. Frantic phone calls on route failed to secure any further players but on arrival at the Rotherham Club they were rescued as Megan Siddown, playing a junior game in Doncaster, agreed to come and make 10. Megan’s mum Dianne and Katie Rudd’s mum Linda agreed to share the number 11 spot.

Beverley Ladies won the toss and on a very green pitch and elected to bat.

Sarah McDowall (18) opened with Beth Smith (35) both starting very cautiously as they found batting very tricky with the inconsistent bounce but it was a full toss that ended Sarah’s innings when she hit it straight at the midwicket fielder.

Amy Halloran (84) joined Beth and raced the score to 103 but then the latter was run out trying to take a quick single. Abbie Warner (11) and Helen Craig (5no) helped Amy put the score nearer the 200 mark but then Amy was trapped LBW with only a few balls to go. Hannah McCoid kept the momentum going pushing first a two and then a three in the last over leaving Beverley with 203 for 4 off their 40 overs.

It reply Anston lost two early wickets but then a stubborn stand of 83 between Clarke (39) and Sauden (32no) prevent a complete collapse but slow scoring left them well short of their target reaching 129 for 4 at the close. Pick of the Beverley attack was Beth Smith 2 for 22 and Abbie Warner 1 for 20.

Skipper Louise Todd said, ‘We can’t keep relying on our juniors. We need a larger squad of committed players if we are to retain our Northern League status. Lots of the juniors have potential and we will continue to give them opportunities but we need more senior players. Training continues on Tuesday Evenings from 6 to 8pm at the Norwood Recreation Ground.

All players are welcome to join us for practice and test your ability and where possible you will be given every opportunity to play.

Women of the match for Beverley was Amy Halloran.
