Supporting the local community has been a major part of the Beverley Building Society’s ethos for 146 years. Most recently help has been given to local young people from the National Citizen Service (NCS) who volunteer their time to make a difference in the community.
The NCS scheme gives young people the opportunity to take part in a variety of fund-raising and community activities in the school summer holiday whilst learning valuable skills and experience for their own future.
This summer, a group of sixteen and seventeen year olds from Beverley have been working with the Millers Project to host activities for those with learning difficulties in the local area.
The day included parachute games, arts and crafts, board games and most popular of all – Zumba classes.
The group have also been helping out at the Queensgate Pre-school in Beverley by transforming the kitchen area and painting the outdoor storage sheds.
As well as the activities, the students also had to raise the funds to make it all happen and a generous donation from the Beverley Building Society helped the projects’ success.
Graham Carter, Head of Business Development at the Beverley Building Society said:
“I think it’s great these young people have such a caring attitude towards the local community and have really made a difference by getting involved in the NCS scheme. It’s something that the Beverley Building Society had no hesitation in supporting”
