Beverley Town FC pulled off a fantastic result as they beat Sculcoates Amateurs 4 – 2 at the Norwood Recreation Ground in the Humber Premier League.
The match took 35 minutes to come to life when Richard Gibson opened the scoring for Beverley finishing well from close range. Just five minutes later and Town must have thought they were in dreamland as Bill Law doubled the lead.
After the restart, the game settled down a lot more, both sides managing to keep the ball on the deck, but it was Sculcoates, who got the breakthrough pulling a goal back. Jamie Walton soon restored parity as he smashed the ball in from close range restoring the two-goal cushion.
Sculcoates again got back to within a goal but any hope of getting anything from the game was dashed when Micheal O’connell score screamer from the edge of the box with just three minutes left in the game.
After the game gaffer Dave Ricardo said;
“This was another professional performance against a tactually astute side that due to our strong back line was unable to make any early inroads”
“I was extremely pleased with the way we could switch our style of play, which at times may have looked more direct than usual but as the score line shows was effective.”
It’s impossible to pick one individual out, but a number of players were outstanding tonight. James Whittingham played a near faultless game whilst Jonny Ricardo and Jamie Waltham were rocks throughout the spine of the team.”
“The squad has shown that the hard work they have put in during pre season is reaping its rewards”
Richard Jagger when asked his thoughts on the game told HU17.net;
“Man of the match for me was defender Ryan Nichols; this was a good all round team performance.”
“We started a bit sluggish first 20 minutes but when the goal went in we couldn’t see Scullys getting back in the game.”
“In the second half we raised the tempo and took more control of the game. New signing Daniel Kinsley gave us a different option up front when he came on second half and will cause problems for teams with his pace!”
Ross Cording also chipped with his views on the match he said;
“For me Michael O’connell outstanding, it will make a lot of teams look out for our results now, there is still a lot to work to do, but I feel the results speak volume.”
Saturday Town are away as they face North Ferriby United Reserves, a game Bevelrey will be looking to win.
