Following their emphatic 77-3 victory over Morpeth last weekend, Beverley RUFC travel the short distance to Pocklington on Saturday, for the first local Derby match between the two clubs for a good number of years.
Following their promotion from Yorkshire 1 last season, Pocklington seem to be well fancied around the clubs to be a force in North 1 and they have certainly started well enough with a creditable away victory at Middlesbrough in their opening fixture, although slipping up at Malton last weekend.
Despite their excellent start, Beverley will certainly not be approaching the game in any other frame of mind but that it will be a tough encounter and they will need to be on top of their game to gain any reward.
Head Coach Anthony Posa said today,
“Derby matches are always difficult and I understand that Pock are a physical and well drilled, organised side. I have stressed to our players that two convincing victories, satisfying as they have been, do not make a season and every match needs to be treated on its merits.”
“Unfortunately we will be without stand-off Phil Duboulay and Matty Adams, who picked up another worrying injury to the knee that kept him out for the whole of last season, but we can cover those absences.”
“Rugby is a physical game and injuries are a part of it. The trick is to try to assemble a squad that can cope with a normal amount, which is what I hope we have done this season.”
