Classy Display From Braves

Beverley travelled to Leeds to play in their first Cross Yorkshire fixture. Facing an unknown side they had to make an impression from the off and you could see on their faces that they were up for the challenge.

Massive driving runs set the tone and the Braves showed their strength with big hits from Dylan Clifford. Beverley started to dominate with skilful play. Conor Egan gathered the ball and stepped inside intelligently to gain yards, Keegan Bartlett was having an excellent game both in attack and defence working so well with fellow playmaker James McGahey.

Beverley confidence started to increase and an excellent passing team move from one wing to the other was brilliant to watch and culminated in Owen Harrison cleanly taking the ball to open the scoring for a well executed try. Beverley looked strong and skilful, Nathan Collinson made some intelligent scoots from hooker and Callum Officer was as formidable as ever.

When Beverley start to pass the ball around they look unbeatable and this time they found Joe Wardill who used his pace to score under the posts. Harrison converted well in strong cross winds. Farnley were a strong side though and only a tight defence from Beverley kept them out. Harry Bell bravely tackled players twice his side and Connor Davies and Harry Gray defended really well.

As a direct result of another crunching tackle from Darren Benstead Farnley spilled the ball and the resulting play saw Wardill accelerate wide past the wingers and scoring under the posts.

Harrison added the two points. It was winger James Sherwin turn to show his incredible speed as he received a pass and burst down the line for an impressive try. Harrison converted well. Beverley dominated now and despite swirling winds around the pitch Tom Woods took the ball cleanly out wide under pressure. Half time 0 – 22

The second half started as the first had ended with some excellent play from Beverley, aggressive in their defence and clinical in attack. McGahey received the ball and intelligently side stepped his way through the defensive line of the Falcons for a stunning individual try. Harrison kicked. Harry Bulleyment was a power house as ever with some great runs.

The game sadly had to be abandoned with 15 minutes to go as a Farnley player was injured, the score 0 – 28 but Beverley had played today with great intensity and thoroughly deserved the win. Man of the match was James McGahey who is so instrumental in the team performance.
