MP To Meet With Local Football Clubs Over Lack Of Pitches In Beverley

Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart will be joining football team representatives from Beverley for a photo shoot to highlight the lack of football pitches in the town.

This season the town lost another pitch at the Beverley Leisure Centre as one of the senior pitches was converted to a 9-a-side field.

Football teams are slowly being forced to play further away and some cases travelling to Hull to find a pitch to play on.

Hodgsons FC who have played in Beverley for years have recently relocated to Bishop Burton College this season. The Eager Beaver and Beverley Town FC’s 3rd team play their fixtures in Leven.

Currently there are just three football pitches in the town suitable for adult football, Thurlow Avenue, Molescroft Pavilion and one at the Beverley Leisure Centre.

Teams are urged to go to the Beverley Leisure Centre on Saturday morning from 10am to lend their support to the issue.

  1. Football in this town has always been overlooked, We have great facilities for Cricket,Rugby,Golf and Horse Racing.Football needs a home of its own with proper backing and local landowners support.

  2. Main problem Paul is all the efforts are going into Junior sport to get kids active, issue is when they grow up there is nothing for them to do. I estimate that at least 3000 people in Beverley if not more have a some sort of link to football in the town, that a is a lot of people.

There are worries that if Longcroft School is redeveloped then even more playing fields will be lost to build housing and making others wealthy at the expense of recreation.

It is crazy to think we are surrounded by open space yet have just three adult grass pitches, of which only two are really available.

  3. If the playing fields and School at Longcroft are lost to housing developments then all is lost,We would never get back such a large green space. Instead of more housing(do we really need more!) a little redevelopment you could make Longcroft the home of football in Beverley,Its on the edge of town, has good road access from the bypass, and would not disturb too many residents.(does the council own all that land ?)
