Walk A Mile In My Shoes For Guide Dog Week 2012

Take the opportunity to step into the world of blind and partially sighted people at this unique sponsored walk across the Humber Bridge.

The event, hosted by Guide Dogs is to be held on Sunday 14th October between 10am and 1pm. Starting at the North Tower and working in teams of two, participants can be sponsored to blindfold walk, guided by their partner, between the two towers (just under a mile) of the Humber Bridge. Alternatively bring along your family dog who can be sponsored to do the walk.

Eyeshades will be provided on the day and children under 14 and dogs can participate without being blindfolded!

This event is part of Guide Dog Week 2012 and the theme is “Walk a Mile in My Shoes”.

This idea came from Guide Dog Owner Rosemary Roberts who, frustrated by people parking on pavements etc said

“I wish they could walk a mile in my shoes”.

The guide dog service receives no government funding and is entirely reliant on the support and generosity of the public.

This year’s event is being supported by Humberside Police and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service who will be there on the day, taking part in a blindfold walk and providing information on hate crime reporting

Please register to take part and receive your sponsorship form from www.gowalkies.org.uk or by calling 0845 6006787.

For more information about the day please contact the Guide Dogs Team on 0845 372 7414.
