Inter Beaver made it three wins on the bounce today with an 8-1 away win against Saints B despite rumours of manager Lewis Jenkinson being considered for the Blackburn Rovers job.
Inter got off to a great start inside three minutes when Daniel Atkinson ran onto a long ball from Adam Nicholson, beat one man and fired low into the bottom corner.
It was 2-0 on 16 minutes following a good tackle & pass from Shaun Gibson in the centre of the park found the Atkinson through one on one with the keeper. Ako finished calmly giving Inter a two-goal lead.
Ako was involved again on 23 minutes with a great turn on the left-wing and then with the chance of a hat trick selflessly squared for strike partner ‘White Mick’ to score his 4th goal in two games from 6 yards out.
Inter looked very comfortable at this stage, with White Mick hitting the bar with a header from 6 yards, but then Saints got back into the game with a speculative powerful shot from 35 yards which keeper Moy later admitted he should have saved. 3-1 and manager Jenkinson wasn’t happy that Inter had taken their foot of the gas.
A few minutes before half time the three goal cushion was restored after a header and followed up shot from Nicholson was well saved by the Saints keeper, only for captain Mike O’Connell to pounce and volley in the rebound from 6 yards.
The second half started slow with the only highlight being an O’Connell free kick hitting the bar from all of 30 yards. Manager Jenkinson made changes on the hour mark, and they soon paid off with Craig Marshall latching onto a long kick from Moy to finish and making it 5-1 on 73 minutes. The same tactic nearly worked again 4 minutes later but the Saints keeper tipped a stinging effort from Marshall onto the post.
Dixon then made it 6-1 on 83 minutes from the penalty spot after a Dave Barley shot was brilliantly saved by the Saints defender. The goals were coming thick and fast now and on 85 minutes Craig Marshall made it 7-1 after a pass from Liam Collingwood.
The scoring was completed a minute later after Mike O’Connell latched onto a Barley through ball to make it 8-1.
After the match injured trio Lee Marshall, Chris Wilson and Andy Martin were left shaking their heads wondering how they would break back into the team.
Manager Lewis Jenkinson said after the game “It was a confident performance and to score 18 goals in three games is pleasing. We sit 2nd in the table but have to keep up our performance levels; top players are still to return.”
