Prolific Artist’s Free Talk in Beverley

An art gallery in Beverley is hosting a 40 year retrospective of prolific Yorkshire artist DH Smith this month and Nigel Walker of Creation Fine Arts, North Bar Within, is proud to announce that the artist himself will be giving a free talk on Friday 19th October.

Nigel Walker says:

“We had a really good attendance at DH Smith’s opening and it is a real honour that this week he will join us to talk about his large body of work from over the last 45 years.”

The artist, David Henry Smith was born in Lincolnshire and attended Grimsby School of Art before studying at London’s Royal College of Art. By the end of his second year he had hosted his first exhibition at the New Art Centre in Sloane Street, which was a huge sell-out success.

Smith’s two obsessions are the Lincolnshire Landscape and his wife Irene. The influences of his early work are Leonardo and Michaelangelo. His love of English romantic poetry is also evident in his work and most recently, the artist has cited Don McLean and even Coldplay as influences.

Recently retired, Smith is leaving England so this is the last chance to see these works together and to hear his speak intimately about his life. The talk takes place on Friday 19th October at 7pm and is free of charge. The Seed Beneath the Snow – A Retrospective of DH Smith runs until November 25th 2012.
