The game got off to the perfect start for the Braves when a high kick from Wyke was cleanly taken by Joe Wardill on the half way line and he saw a gap and accelerated through the defence to score before Wyke even had time to settle. Keegan Bartlett accurately converted to set the tone of the game.
Hull restarted but Callum Officer gathered superbly close to the side line to continue the momentum. Bartlett did a fantastic run side stepping his way down the pitch, Darren Benstead continued the attack and within minutes Beverley were putting pressure on the line yet again. A lovely passing move released Wardill who found yet another gap and powered over with Bartlett kicking the two points well.
Beverley kept the ball under control as neat passing from Bartlett switched the direction of play to give Harry Bulleyment chance to show his power on a charging run, keeping Wyke firmly planted on their line. This intensive play saw fast hands down the line finding Conor Egan who took his try so well and edge Beverley further into the lead.
Beverley’s forwards dominated the middle of the pitch and their explosive runs gained exciting yards every time. James McGahey, dictating play as ever, released Wardill with an inch perfect pass for another try. Bartlett kicked cleanly once again. When Beverley attacked they did so clinically and all players involved took the play to the home side’s line with 2 or 3 drives. The next was a perfect example of this as extraordinary ground was made by Dylan Clifford, then Officer and McGahey to put Beverley back on Wyke’s line.
Harry Gray had a brilliant game releasing passes under immense pressure and this resulted in a scoot from Clifford who used his immense strength to force down the ball to score. With confidence running high Beverley were throwing the ball and running a great line and as Wardill escaped again great support play from Benstead, which he is excelling at, saw him bag a try under the sticks. Bartlett kicked an easy conversion.
With minutes ticking for the end of the first half another series of clean passes found Connor Davies out wide and he grounded the ball skilfully to signal a very good first half for the Braves with the score 0 – 36.
The Braves did not take their foot off the pedal in the second half either as Harry Bell expertly side stepped his way up the pitch and from this Beverley kept the ball alive to find Benstead, whose imposing run went over the line and under the sticks for his second try of the game. Bartlett comfortably took the two points.
Wyke did not give up though and had a spell where they forced Beverley to defend and it was only a wonderful tackle from James Sherwin that prevented an almost certain try. Beverley regained their composure quickly and found Benstead in the thick of the action and confidently ran hard and fast to secure his hat trick. Bartlett kicked strongly. The tries continued to follow as a massive drive from Bulleyment was unstoppable as he touched the ball down over the white wash and Wardill took his fourth try of the game running just as strong as at the start of the match.
Beverley also defended professionally when called upon and a high ball was taken neatly by Nathan Collinson who then ran quickly to take all the pressure from Beverley’s line. The game was completed with another text book line finding Owen Harrison who released Tom Woods on the wing and he dived over strongly and completed the game, an impressive 0 – 62 win for Beverley Braves.
Keegan Bartlett was awarded man of the match for controlling the game expertly.
