Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness, has congratulated the North Bar Traders Association on being made Town Team Partners, as part of the Portas Pilot initiative. The scheme is being run by the Department for Communities and Local Government to help improve the nation’s town centres.
The North Bar Traders will receive £10,000 towards their regeneration plans, including promotions, events, a dedicated website, and new signage.
They will also be able to access the Association of Town Centre management’s support package, which has been put together with the help of retail experts from across the country. This will provide practical support as they put their plans into action.
Graham said, “I have met with members of the North Bar Traders Association over the last months, and was impressed with their plan and their dedication to this historic part of the town. I congratulate them on a well deserved award and have every confidence that they will put the money to good use. Making the Georgian Quarter a vibrant place for local shoppers will bring benefits to the whole community.”
David Bird, a founding member of the group said, “The fact that we have gained this money shows that our plans are highly regarded by central government. It also means we can move forward more quickly than we would have done otherwise.
“We want to turn the North Bar shopping area into the premier fashion and lifestyle destination in East Yorkshire. Shoppers and visitors will start to notice the improvements and plans we have over the coming months.”
