Town Beat Cave In Top Of The Table Clash

The top two teams in the Humber Premier League went head to head in the first of two back to back matches.

Beverley Town who are in second place travelled to North Cave to take on the current league leaders and left with all three points though needed to come from behind to do so.

Falling behind early on in the game Beverley Town were awarded a penalty that Luke Thompson dispatched cooly to level the scores on the stroke of half time.

In an evenly fought contest, North Cave slowly started to a self-district as their frustration with match official Nick Giles, who was handing out cards for fun.

Cave keeper and former Town player Mark Cockin was given a yellow card after numerous warnings from referee and from his skipper Matthew Hillary.

Town finally got the breakthrough when Craig Palmer latched onto a ball in the box, turn on a six pence and slotted home from six yards to score his first goal for the club.

With plenty of time in the game Cave seemed to lose their heads that saw two of their key players being sent off all but ending the game. First to go was Mark Cockin, who received a second yellow and just minutes later his brother Craig Cockin was given a straight red.

With nine men on the field cave came close to nicking a point, but the effort was tipped onto the post by Town’s Adam Nicholson then rebounded off the keepers head, back off the post and into Nicholson’s arms.

Beverley Town’s Match Day Co-Ordinator Rob Scattergood commented after the game;

“The only way is up.”

The two sides will again meet next weekend as North Cave travel to the Norwood Recreation Ground in the cup.

Cave will most certainly be arriving with the intention of winning and ending Town’s 19 game unbeaten under boss David Ricardo, but Town have the edge going into match and this win will give them an added boost.
